Tag
Tag is a simple game involving speed and quick wit.
Rules
The rules of Tag are simple: At the beginning of the game, one person is chosen ("it"). Everyone runs from this person. Whenever you are tagged, you become "it," and it is your goal to tag someone else. The game has no predetermined end; rather, it often ends when everyone becomes tired.
Often the game is played with safe zone - places that, when touched, keep the player from being able to be tagged. Often, these safe zones are trees or other easily accessible landmarks.
Freeze Tag
A common variant to the game is Freeze Tag, which has several variations itself. Basically, at the start of the game one person is chosen to be the freezer (as "it" was chosen above). This person attempts to tag other players; however, once tagged, a person does not become "it." Instead, that person is "frozen" and is no longer able to move. The game is over when everyone is frozen.
Freeze tag often is played with people who can "unfreeze" other players. Sometimes to be unfrozen, all you must do is be touched by someone other than the freezer. Other versions involve more complex ways in which one becomes unfrozen, such as having another person crawl through your legs.
Yet another variation of the game involves a player deemed "the sun." In this version, the sun is the only person able to unfreeze other players. However, other players attempt to protect the sun from the freezer, as if the freezer touches the sun, the game is over.
Tag is an extremely versatile game involving no preparation and little structure. There is often no teams, points, or winners. Yet it can be played almost anywhere by almost anyone making it an enjoyable way to pass the time.
